Oud Kimiya

Eau de parfum. Aged agarwood opens over saffron and settles into warm amber. It wears dark and close for the first hour, then widens. Kimiya is the old word for alchemy.

How an attar is made

Four stages, in order

1 Distil

Flowers, herbs or baked clay are heated in a copper deg. The vapour is carried through a bamboo pipe into a bhapka, a receiver holding sandalwood oil.

2 Rest

The oil sits in sealed leather and glass vessels for weeks, sometimes months, until the water settles out and the scent rounds.

3 Blend

Single attars are combined to a fixed recipe. A mukhallat can carry a dozen of them. Each blend gets a batch number.

4 Bottle

Filled by hand into 12 ml glass roll-ons, or diluted for the eau de parfum range and rested again before spraying.
